Empty Spaces, A Temporary Virtual World
Our world has transformed, we are all experiencing enormous changes, that we could never have imagined or indeed welcomed. However isn’t it incredible how we are adapting, including ourselves here at Physis Scotland. We confess than we are not the most ‘techy’ oriented, this has not been a priority, as we love to meet you all in person. However we have embraced change, learned about technologies that can facilitate our temporary new world and are delighted to host a fabulous online programme of training and CPD opportunities. Scroll down and we are sure you will find something to suit your needs, that you can study from the comfort of your home. As soon as the health crisis allows, we will be so excited to welcome you back to Edinburgh and meet again in person, face to face.
Mental Health Awareness Week
As many of you will have been aware, last week was Mental Health Awareness Week and we have found even more meaning at this perplexing time. The last few years have seen incredible momentum in terms of awareness, openness and public support for people suffering from mental health issues. This pandemic has impacted not only those who already struggle, but many who in ‘normal’ times very rarely appear to have issues. However it has also brought out enormous amounts of kindness, generosity and compassion. Communities have come together, reached out and helped each other. How wonderful.
Director Fiona Cook, reflects in our blog ‘Kindness is a Gift’ on the theme of mental health, why she developed her career in this area and how she recognises for her, kindness starts at home.

Workshop 1: Who Am I Today? My Identity as a Supervisor
1st June 6pm – 8pm
In this experiential workshop, explore your identity as a supervisor. What do you believe about supervision and what it is for? How does that link to your personal philosophical core? How might that connect to and differ from your other roles such as therapist? Client? And more….as a new or an experienced supervisor there is lots to discover.
Workshop 2: Creativity in Supervision
8th June 6pm – 8pm
In this experiential workshop we will focus on the idea of working intuitively in a relational process within supervision using creative methods.
Creativity provides an experience that gives us different perspectives that we can then make meaning from. ‘Stuck’ points in supervision can be shifted in this way, this and other options opened by creative work will be explored.
Workshop 3: Power and Diversity in Supervision
22nd June 6pm – 8pm
Supervision, the process, the relationship can create the conditions for ethical dilemmas related to the power held by the supervisor.
We are interested in how we move from supervisor as ‘expert’ with power over, to a more pluralistic position of supervisor who has power with and is an engager in a collaborative relationship where meaning is co-created and difference is valued.
Workshop 4: Working at the Teach/Treat Boundary in Supervision
29th June 6pm – 8pm
Drawing on the work of Frawley-O’Dea & Sarnat, Chinnock and Fowlie, we invite you to consider with us the possibilities presented by a relational approach to addressing supervisee conflicts and relationship problems that get in the way of their work. We will explore the conditions needed for this rich and transformational way of working.
Workshop 5: Supervision, Views from the Helicopter
13th July 6pm – 8pm
The word supervision means a view from above. Join us in a discussion about supervision – ask questions, bring discussion points, share experiences, make meaning, learn and pass on your knowledge.
