Who is it aimed at?

Anyone who has a curiosity about the use of silence and its purpose in psychotherapy and counselling.

Course Outline

Who knows doesn’t talk. Who talks doesn’t know” Urself K Le Guin

Sounds in Silence is offered as a space for practitioners to reflect on silence, experientially, theoretically and professionally. This is an invitation for attendees to explore their individual and group relationship with silence and how it could be impacting our relationship with our clients, and vice versa.

In a workshop that could leave you with more questions than answers, you are invited to bring and explore your current and historical experiences of silence, with clients and elsewhere, and to ask yourself questions about how this has and is influencing all aspects of your practice and lives.

As a Transactional Analysis practitioner, my invitation to attendees ‘What if ‘what do you say after you say hello?…….is nothing?’

Aims

In an environment of curiosity, courage and reflection, the aim of this course is to deepen and, or broaden attendees thinking and understanding of their unique relationship with silence.

Learning Outcomes

  • To have experienced silence in groups and pairs
  • To have shared our experience with others
  • To have had space to reflect on our individual relationships with silence
  • To have listened to and appreciated the collective diversity of experiences
  • To have expanded our confidence around working with silence
  • To have considered this with links to our modalities of choice

Course Structure

There will be opportunities for experiential exercises, didactic teaching and discussion on aspects of silence that engage attendees. The safety of the group will be addressed in agreement with the group at the start of the workshop, and individuals will be invited to consider how their cultural selves will impact their relationship with the subject. Students must be able to find a safe, quiet, uninterrupted space with a good internet connection to attend this course. This is particularly important to facilitate experiential exercises in an online setting.
