TA Deep Dive 2/10: Understanding and Treating Shame

Series of ten 2-hour online workshops:
‘TA Deep Dive: Understanding and Treating Shame.’ Workshop 2

Thursday 22 January 2026, 6pm - 8pm

Who is it aimed at

Psychotherapy trainees and TA Qualified Practitioners.

Workshop Outline

Many practitioners would consider Shame as central to working with clients, and yet it can feel like a confusing and overwhelming topic. In this workshop we will explore some of what the TA community has written about working with Shame (Erskine, 1994; Cornell, 1994; 2018; Little, 1999). We will go on to consider how we can work and talk with our clients about shame. We will consider other non-TA theories and strategies as well. Throughout this workshop we will be considering practical ways of working with shame.

Aims

The aim of this training is to give an overview of how to engage with the topic of Shame with our clients, and to support the participants with tools for how to be effective in ‘treating’ Shame.

Learning Outcomes

Participants from this course should have a good understanding how Shame can be created, and what Shame looks like.

The Participants from this course should feel confident in supporting their clients with chronic, entrenched, and trauma reinforced shame.
