About the Course

Are you involved or want to be involved in running or facilitating Groups?  Do you want to learn about Group Dynamics; how to build and maintain Group Boundaries; understand how original family dynamics still unconciously influence an individual’s position and relationships in a Group?

This Certificate training will be a blend of didactic and experiential online training where you will develop and enhance your Group Leadership and Facilitation skills.

Certificate in Working With and Facilitating Groups

This online 6 day certificate course will provide an opportunity to develop skills in Group Facilitation and the running of Therapy Groups.   Ideal for professionals from a variety of disciplines including

  • Therapists
  • Counsellors
  • Coaches
  • Mental health workers
  • Social workers
  • Other caring professionals
  • HR managers
  • Teachers

The 6-days will run over three weekend modules, from March through to May 2022.  The modules will run online through Zoom, allowing you to join us from the comfort of your own home, from wherever you are located across the globe.

Learning Objectives

  • Explore the practicalities of running a Group
  • Critically assess the different types of Groups and the practical & clinical implications of each type
  • Gain an understanding of a variety of Group Theories and become aware of how to apply them in practice
  • Develop an awareness of unconscious Group Processes and how to work with them systemically
  • Identify the benefits and difficulties of working with Groups in-person versus online

Course Content

  • Module 1: Group Theory; Practicalities & Different Types of Groups
  • Module 2: Planning your Group; Finding your Style; Group Development, Cohesion and Boundaries
  • Module 3: Participation in an experiential group as a member; plus Small Group Skills Practice

Assessments and Certification

You will be given written feedback based on the tutor’s assessment of your skills practice in Module 3.  Following attendance of all three modules and participation in experiential group therapy plus skills practice in Module 3, you will receive a Certificate from Physis Scotland in “Working With and Facilitating Groups”.

Fee: £690 (3 taught modules over 3 weekends) £75 deposit plus 3 x £205

Course tutor

Susie Hewitt TSTA-P; UKCP Reg.  BACP Accred. CIM Dip. is a Core Tutor at Physis Scotland.  She has been running weekly psychotherapy groups for the past 14 years and  prior to this had a 15 year background in working in large Corporations incl. IBM where she facilitated large groups internally and externally in her client base.
